Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has addressed speculations surrounding his recent meeting with the factional Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, stating that details of their discussion will be made public in due course.

Responding to questions during his monthly media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike described the meeting as a normal political engagement that should not trigger unnecessary public debate.

“You said Abure came to visit me. Of course, he is a politician, and I’m a politician. What is wrong when politicians meet each other?” the minister stated.

Asked if the meeting had political undertones linked to the 2027 elections, Wike declined to give specifics but hinted that plans would unfold at the right time.

“Why would I tell you what I’m planning for 2027? You will know when the time comes,” he said.

Naija News recalls that Abure, on the 22nd of July, 2025, had stated during the party’s national executive committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja that the meeting was wrongly interpreted.

He explained that the visit was a private affair.

Abure said, “Last week, I met with the FCT minister, and it attracted a lot of comments, a lot of misconceptions, and a lot of talk about the photographic events.

“Now that we have the privilege of convening this meeting, it’s an opportunity for me to make a few brief remarks.

“I want to say, firstly and very clearly, that I am in Nigeria. I live in the FCT, and Nyesom Wike is the FCT minister.

“I have the right, as a Nigerian, to interface and interact with anybody, with any public officer in the federal government of Nigeria.

“The meeting was privileged and, therefore, was purely a private meeting.”
