The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) says it trusts Labour Partys 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to honour his pledge of serving only one term if elected president in 2027. MBF National President, Dr. Bitrus Pogu, said the former Anambra State governors integrity and record of keeping promises make him a credible figure. We believe Peter Obi is a man of honour. If he promises something, he will keep to it, Pogu said. This assurance is not to deceive the Middle Belt into supporting him; we know him to be a man of integrity and honour who keeps his words. While stressing that he spoke strictly for the Middle Beltnot the NorthPogu noted that, ideally, the constitution and the electorate should determine a presidents tenure.Meanwhile, Obis political base, the Obidient Movement, is gathering momentum in Oyo State. Over the weekend, members convened for the Oyo State Obidient Conference themed Going Forward 2027: A New Nigeria is Possible at the Empowerment Centre, Ring Road, Ibadan. Prof. Francis Egbokhare, a linguist from the University of Ibadan, delivered a keynote address painting a stark picture of Nigerias wasted potential. Nigeria is a giant lying prostrate, trampled by dwarfs, he said, criticising governance marked by ineffective spending and propaganda over the rule of law. Egbokhare urged the movement to rethink its political approach, warning: Do not play a game you have neither mastered nor can control; change the game or change the rules. He stressed that winning elections without reshaping the national mindset would only reproduce past failures.National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, dismissed rumours of Obis possible defection. For the point of clearance, Mr. Peter Obi is a member of the Labour Party. Yes, there are issues in the party, but INEC is yet to resolve them, Yunusa said. He reaffirmed that Obi will contest in 2027 and remains committed to a single-term presidency. If elected, he will provide a purposeful single term. Many of Nigerias problems can be solved in one year if we focus on human development, as he did in Anambra State. The post 2027: Peter Obi will keep his one-term promise Middle Belt Forum appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
