Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that it was his responsibility as a senior citizen of Nigeria to not only speak out when a government ceases to serve the people, but to take action to reverse the situation
He called on Nigerians to vote out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, warning that the party poses a threat to the nation’s unity.
Naija News reports that El-Rufai made the remarks on Saturday while addressing youths in Sokoto State during a mobilisation campaign for the newly formed opposition coalition.
The outspoken former governor, who is a key member of the opposition coalition, described the APC as incompetent and clannish, adding that its continued hold on power would further endanger national cohesion.
“I didn’t get into politics to enrich myself but to serve. And when a government ceases to serve the people, it is my duty as a senior citizen to not only speak out but take action to reverse the situation,” El-Rufai said.
Naija News reports that the coalition of opposition parties has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform to challenge the APC in the 2027 polls.
According to El-Rufai, the move is aimed at unifying various political forces to provide a credible alternative capable of rescuing Nigeria from ‘mismanagement and divisive leadership.’
He called on Nigerian youths to join the coalition’s efforts, saying their participation is crucial to reclaiming the country’s democratic values and ensuring inclusive governance.
The campaign marks one of El-Rufai’s strongest public criticisms of his former party since leaving office, signalling heightened political realignments ahead of the next general elections.
